30 years of operation - GAMECO made it into the world's top 10 MRO
Overhauls being completed for more than 3,300 aircraft since establishment

 

On October 28th, Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Co., LTD. (GAMECO) celebrated its 30th anniversary in a spectacular ceremony. Customers and business partners, government officials and guests from near and far enjoyed together with GAMECO’s employees a review of the glorious history of GAMECO, looked forward to the blueprint of GAMECO’s future, and adored the presentation of an exciting performance art show. During the ceremony, GAMECO also recognized 30 outstanding employees.


Mr. Norbert Marx, GM of GAMECO, addressed in his welcome speech that after 30 years of hard work, GAMECO has grown from 600 employees to over 6,000 in 2019, producing more than 6 million productive man-hours per year, which ranks the company among the top 10 global MRO’s. Over the past 30 years, GAMECO has created several "firsts" in the history of civil aircraft maintenance in China. Already in 1991, GAMECO completed China’s first D check of Boeing 737 aircraft, ending the history that Boeing 737 aircraft had to be sent abroad for D check. Today GAMECO is a “Center of Excellence” for Airbus A380 maintenance and it has completed a number of massive Airbus A380 six-year checks. It has a landing gear overhaul facility with full in-house capability and it is experienced in passenger to freighter aircraft conversions.


At present, GAMECO has branches in Chongqing and Qingyuan, as well as maintenance stations in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Shantou and Beijing Daxing. It leads the industry in establishing maintenance branches in Australia and New Zealand. These days during the peak season, nearly 1,000 flights are released by GAMECO every day. In 2018, GAMECO completed base maintenance checks above C-Check level for about 200 aircraft and since its beginning 30 years ago, the number is over 3,300 aircraft.


In 2015, the world-renowned Aviation Week published the results of its biennial ranking of the world's top 10 MRO, ranking GAMECO the first time in the top 10 on position #6. Over the recent years, GAMECO has won many prestigious industry awards, including "Best MRO in China" by Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) for three consecutive years.


At Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport GAMECO now operates 18 to 20 heavy maintenance lines in its hangars, plus one painting hangar, which can accommodate the world's largest aircraft, the Airbus A380, or three narrow body aircraft for painting simultaneously. GAMECO holds maintenance certificates from over 20 national authorities, serving more than 60 airlines worldwide. In addition it holds approvals from national and international authorities as a design organization, a training organization and a manufacturing organization.


GAMECO is recognized as a national "High Technology Enterprise" and as an Engineering Technology Research Center of Guangdong province. With 27 invention patents, GAMECO is the MRO with the largest number of intellectual property rights in China. Year after year GAMECO invests about 100 million Yuan to carry out nearly 100 scientific and technological innovation projects. GAMECO has expanded from maintenance to R&D and manufacturing, with a Part Manufacturing Center (PMC) that can develop, design and manufacture aircraft parts. On its way to the implementation of smart maintenance solutions GAMECO actively researches on big data analysis, intelligent robots and mobile informatization.


As a leading enterprise in aircraft maintenance industry GAMECO has contributed significantly to the Guangzhou airport economic zone. It has achieved rapid development with an average annual growth rate of more than 10% over the last ten years. It has made a very important contribution to the promotion of personnel employment, tax creation, technological innovation and industrial development in Guangzhou airport economic zone.


GAMECO’s new 100.000 m2 phase III hangar project has started construction in May this year and will be completed and put into production by the end of 2021. Also a 38.000 m2 component repair base project and a 16.000 m2 composite material maintenance center will break ground early next year and is expected to go into production end of 2021.
