Yunnan Airport Group and Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Company Sign Strategic Partnership MOU

November 6th afternoon, Zhuhai Airshow, Yunnan Airport Group signed strategic partnership MOU with Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Company (GAMECO), to push forward establishment of an aircraft maintenance platform centered at Kunming Changshui Airport (KMG), and cover all state and city airports in Yunnan Province.  Mr. Bob Peng, Marketing & Sales Director of GAMECO, Mr. Wei Ruosong, Investment Deputy Director of Yunnan Airport Group signed the MOU for Strategic Co-operation on Aircraft Maintenance, Mr. Norbert Marx, GAMECO General Manager,,  Mr. Hu Xiao, General Manager GAMECO Qingyuan Branch, Mr. Liu Ming De, Component Business Center Director of GAMECO and Mr. Hou Qingping, VP of Yunnan Airport Group, Mr. Xia Guanghui, General Manager of Yunnan Airport Aircraft Maintenance Branch, Mr. Yan Xin, General Manager, Yuannan Colorful General Aviation Co. Ltd.,  attended and witnessed the signing ceremony.

 

Yunnan Province is assigned by China Central Government as a center facing Southeast Asia, and Kunming Changshui Airport is decided as a national hub airport.  According to the 《Hub Airport Strategic Planning of Kunming Airport》 jointly made by Yunnan Province and CAAC, Kunming Airport will be upgraded and expanded.  By 2030, apron passenger parking sites will increase to 350, annual passenger turnover will increase to 120 Million people, annual cargo turnover will increase to 1.2 Million tons, and annual take-off and landing will increase to 820 Thousand flights.  There is huge potential in aviation market in Kunming.  Therefore, Yunnan Airport Group is committed to establish comprehensive aircraft maintenance and support platform, which is able to provide line maintenance, aircraft service, aircraft wash, ground guiding and towing, group power and air conditioning, ground support equipment, airframe heavy maintenance, modification, aircraft painting, lease return check, aircraft dismantle, AOG support, component repair, fleet management, engineering service, material support, training, and special equipment repair services.

 

In accordance with CAAC and China Southern “13th 5-Year Plan”, Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Company is committed to achieve the strategic goal of being a “World Leading MRO”, actively pushing forward scale and network development, develop and complete maintenance network, provide convenient and high-quality maintenance services to domestic and overseas customers.

 

According to the MOU, Yunnan Airport Group and GAMECO will study feasibility to jointly establish the aircraft maintenance platform, as well as the establishment plan, and push forward the deployment of the plan.

Yunnan Airport Group is a state-owned, Yunnan Government approved entity and financing platform, with social welfare characters, specialized in aviation support business.  It is the 1st airport group in China, which uses integrated management model to build, operate and manage the airports in Yunnan Province.  Yunnan Airport Group is currently managing 15 civil aviation airports.  Its 2017 passenger turnovers is 62.79 Million people, while landings and take-offs is 512.9 Thousand times, both ranked number 4 in China.  Its Kunming Changshui Airport (KMG) passenger turnover in 2017 is 44.73 Million people, ranked number 6 in China; take-offs and landings in 2017 is 350.3 Thousand times, ranked number 4 in China and number 37 in the world.  By 2020, Yunnan Airport Group will establish a safe, high-efficient, green civilaviation and general aviation system, airports in operation and in building will grow to 20, with another 20 CAT I general aviation airports; passenger turnovers in airports managed by Yunnan Airport Group will grow to 100 Million people; Yunnan will become a competitive civil aviation province for the first time.  Afterwards, Yunnan Airport Group will based at Southwest China, target at South and Southeast Asia to develop its business, in line with CAAC “328 Network Planning”.

 

Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Company is a Guangdong Province High-Tech Enterprise, Guangzhou Customs AEO Enterprise, Guangzhou Harmony Labor Relationship AAA Enterprise, a Top 10 MRO in Aviation Week’s 2016 World Airframe MRO Ranking.  In recent years, following the development strategy of “Becoming the world’s leading MRO”, guided by “internationalization, scale, intelligence and branding”, Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Company dedicates to develop comprehensive capabilities like airframe heavy maintenance and modification, line maintenance, component repair, engineering service, material service, and training service, etc.  Other than the HQ in Guangzhou, GAMECO also owns a landing gear overhaul branch in Qingyuan, a line maintenance branch in Chongqing, line maintenance stations in Shanghai, Qingdao, and Shenyang.  GAMECO has obtained regulatory approvals from more than 20 countries and regions, including CAAC in China, FAA in US and EASA in European Union.  It has a customer base of more than 180, which include China Southern, FedEx, China Postal.

 

In 2018, GAMECO successfully registered New Zealand Branch and Australia Branch.  Its new Part Manufacturing shop, with total area of 6,000 M2, is going to be in operation shortly.  GAMECO has also signed MOA with Boeing, to obtain key skills and on contract works on 737NG PTF, 787 Asia Support Center, 777/787 Landing Gear Overhaul, Composite Repair and New Generation Aircraft Component Repair, etc. for Boeing, by which its capability will go up to a new level.

 

By now, the new hangar phase III, with total construction area of 90 Thousand M2, and capacity of doing airframe works on 6 wide body aircrafts simultaneously, is doing the project establishment and design / application works.  GAMECO plans to ground-break on March 2019, and complete hangar building by the end of 2021.  A total construction area of 54 Thousand M2 Component Business Center (CBC) and Composite Repair Center (CRC) is at the preparation phase, and is going to be in operation at 2022.  By then Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Company’s capabilities and capacities on airframe heavy maintenance, component repair and composite repair will be significantly improved.
