The steel structure of GAMECO phase III hangar successfully capped

On September 20, the steel structure of GAMECO Phase III Hangar was successfully lifted to top, marking the project entering into a new construction stage. GAMECO Phase III hangar ranks No.3 for its wide span in China.

 

Affected by COVID-19 pandemic, the assembly of the hangar hall steel structure started on March 5, 2020. Through the close cooperation of all parties involved in the construction, it took half a year to complete the lifting of the steel structure by adopting the construction technology of “overall lifting in two times”. The hangar hall is 334 meters in length and 107 meters in width with up to 4,786 tons of steel structure.

 

On September 10, the grid structure was lifted to 10.26 meters high for the first stage to match with the hangar door purlins accurately. On September 20, the grid and purlin structure was lifted to 30 meters high with an average lifting speed of 3 meters per hour. The construction size and volume of steel structure rank No.3 in China. And steel structure lifting is the most critical, risky and challenging task of the construction project.

 

The Phase III Hangar project is a key project of the world-class airport cluster strategy of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It consists of a hangar hall (reinforced concrete column + steel grid roof) and a three-storey annex building (reinforced concrete structure). The total construction area is 98,400 square meters and the hangar hall is 33,800 square meters. It can accommodate 11 heavy maintenance production lines including six wide-body aircraft (e.g. A380 and B777-300ER) and five narrow-body aircraft at the same time. GAMECO will be equipped with 30 production lines with greater capacity after the operation of Phase III Hangar in the future.
