GAMECO ANNOUNCES PHASE II HANGAR INAUGURATION CEREMONY

Nov. 12, 2013

Guangzhou, Nov. 12, 2013--- Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering Company Ltd. (GAMECO), a MRO Joint Venture owned by China Southern Airlines Co. Ltd., South China International Aircraft Engineering Co. Ltd. and Hutchison Aircraft Maintenance Investment Ltd., announced the inauguration of the new GAMECO Phase II Hangar at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. With hangar doors being lifted up slowly, a China Southern aircraft and a China Postal aircraft were towed into the new hangar.

While presenting his speech, Norbert Marx, General Manager of GAMECO, commented: “Today’s inauguration of GAMECO’s Phase II 8-Bay hangar including workshops is a significant milestone in developing GAMECO’s heavy maintenance operation, providing the perfect answer in regard to China Southern ambitious fleet growth as well as towards expanding Chinese and worldwide third party demand for base maintenance within the Chinese attractive economical environment. I want to thank all the related authorities, the airport and our shareholders for their continued outstanding support.”

The new Phase II Hangar Project located south of the current GAMECO hangar facility, provides total footage of approximately 66,800 m2.  The hangar itself is a steel grid structure, offering 15,000 m2 providing a total of 8 maintenance bays to accommodate narrow-body aircraft (B737 / B757 and A321 family). With a height of 29.8 meters it is also capable of accommodating medium wide body aircraft, e.g. China Southern B787, as well. In addition, the maintenance apron area with 30,000 m2 can accommodate other B757’/B737’s or A320’s. The total investment for the new Phase II Hangar project is approximately ¥ 580M RMB ($ 94M USD).

GAMECO Phase II Hangar echoes in appearance the Phase I Hangar. Both Hangars are connected through a bridge. Like Phase I Hangar, the doors of Phase II Hangar are made of polyester fiber and able to resist a grade 12 typhoon. Phase II Hangar is coming with many innovative features in usage and energy saving — lifting utility ports are easy to operate and overhead rail cranes facilitate the transportation of engines. Solar panels on the hangar roof avoid glare while being of lighter weight and electric powered roof top windows provide natural ventilation. Hangar hall, subsidiary rooms and subsidiary building are using rock wool walls with silver metal surfaces, which is stylish and environmental friendly at the same time. The air-source heat pump system makes power-saving become reality.

GAMECO Phase I Hangar started being operational in 2004, accommodating 4 wide-body aircraft (2 A380 and 2 B747) or alternatively 12 narrow-body aircraft, plus a paint hangar (spaced for one wide-body bay or two narrow-bodies). Further plans exist regarding a future Component Business Center, Composite Repair Center and the Phase III Hangar to be build north of the Phase I Hangar - all listed in line with the 9 key projects within the Guangzhou Airport Economic Zone.
